The Alesis MultiMix 4 USB FX is a four-channel desktop mixer with a USB digital audio interface that lets you mix live, in the home studio, and record audio directly to a computer. This compact mixer is perfect for using in computer-recording setups, intimate live-sound environments, video-editing and production studios, and portable podcasting setups. It outputs line-level analog audio and stereo 16-bit, 44.1/48 kHz digital audio over USB for recording low-noise, CD-quality mixes directly to your Mac or PC. Ideal for live sound engineering or home recording, MultiMix 4 USB FX features onboard volume, pan, and EQ controls for making quick, accurate adjustments to your mix. A two-channel, five-stage, multicolor LED meter allows visual monitoring the main output level. Channels one and two offer switchable high-pass filtering at 75Hz to reduce low-frequency rumble, handling, and wind noise. Excellent audio mixer, very low noise with good on board effects.A very minor quibble for me could be that the Aux send is mono output not stereo.

  2. Keep in mind that this unity has only 2 channels for USB Digital Recording on your computer… they’ve made a little obscure in the specifications. For the mixer channels they specify 8 with the number (easy to see amongst lots of letters) and they say it’s a stereo interface instead of using the number saying 2 Channel USB Recording. I also think that they might say 2 Channel (Main Output) to USB Recording, for you to understand that it’s not Channel 1 and 2 Direct Out, the purpose is to make Mixed L+R Recording from whatever you’re doing with the mixer.Just sad that I’ve been misled to believe that it was an 8 Channel recording interface and when I’ve found on Amazon I did not came to see the reviews for other two people had pointed this already. As for the unity as a mixer, it is very good, no Hum at all and I’m also running on balanced cables here! Satisfied with FX quality also and that there’s one AUX besides the FX wich is unusual on mixers this small.

  3. I’m rating this product based on the $138 price I paid for it. It was inexpensive and does the job very well. I use it for gigging to plug into my 3 input Fishman SA220 to allow up to four mic’s and a couple of guitars – it works good for that. It’s very important to set the levels correctly so that you don’t get clipping and distortion on the output – which I have used to my advantage in recording distortion guitar for individual tracks. It has a decent effects channel and good equalization on the channels. I recommend this product especially for new and low budget musicians – It’s a good back up mixer as well.

I purchased this deck after reading the reviews and I am glad I did. Its ideal for my home recording and plugs straight into my PC. Using ASIO4All driver there is minimal latency. The only critism is that it has only one channel for guitar, but I can still work with this. Its a very robust design and the knobs are nice and smooth. It also fits on my desk tray with plenty of room around it. I used to have a Behringer, which only lasted about 6 years and gradually degraded until it did not work at all, so I won’t by Behringer again until their quality gets better. In summary the Alesis has exceeded my expectations and would recommend this for the home recordist.

I am not an experienced digital tech. However I wanted to record my midi key board and guitar and vocal tracks on to my Mac Book Pro. This is a well made and great mixer. I have it set up with a direct midi from my keyboards and this handling all other inputs and outputs. The fx is a bit weak but I cannot fault the quality of the product or the sound reproduction. The set up was easy and straightforward.

  6. Just needs a few dial turns and its great! I run a podcast and got tired of crowding around one mic. So I saved up got this a few xlr mics arms and shock mounts and it has been one of the best choices ever. The effects are hit or miss and for the most part I don’t use them preferring on editing in post production. However of you need something simple and straight forward to record a few friends talk about video games and not want to fuss with virtual mixers this is for you. It also has built in phantom power so you don’t have to buy that.

  8. Works great for what I need. Able to run the audio from my computer DAW into this mixer through the AUX input. Play my instrument through any input. along with the audio coming out of the computer. Then I was able to send the signal back through the USB cable with out the computer audio in the mix. Just mix my instrument on a single track in my DAW.Before I had to use 2 mixers to do this!

  9. USB audio is very noisy and signal levels are very low. I will have to find another way to get audio from my DAW.

  10. Ok little mixer. (it’s smaller than the picture makes it look) Most of the features and issues have already been brought up and I can’t say that my unit is typical.I received the unit on time (though the tracking of the shipping was a little screwed up) and undamaged. Setup and connection to the computer was straightforward. As other people have mentioned, the process for getting the cubase software is more cumbersome than it needs to be. (would it really cost that much more to include a data DVD?)My one complaint so far has been that the 48volt phantom power badly bleeds noise into the mains and monitor. (at least through the headphone jack…I haven’t hooked it up to speakers yet) This is not a cabling issue as the noise happens as soon as the phantom power is turned on even if nothing is plugged into the inputs. however it IS running through the mic pre-amps as increasing any channel’s pre-amp gain increases the noise. As soon as phantom power is shut off, the noise goes away. Luckily, I’m using a couple of AKG C-1000s which can be battery powered and therefore don’t need phantom power. If my mics had to have phantom power, the mixer would be useless.Outside of that problem everything works as advertised.

  11. Very basic and to the point does what it needs to perfectly, only faulters on how to get started in documentation. Being I am a beginner with some experience it was an easy setup and calibrate to make me sound like me with a cheap Mic, but newbies will be lost more than they should, really only a 1 star loss on rating, it’s actually a good thing but at the cost of your time.
